FVIEWALL - File Viewer 1.00 12th January 1994 A large size file viewer for the Psion Series 3a - Copyright 1994 C.J.Consultants Ltd. 1 Kimmins Rd, Stonehouse, Glos GL10 2EU. UK. Phone : 0453-826647 (Evenings) Email - 100010.1141@compuserve.com 1) Introduction This program started life as a Series 3 Classic tool I developed based largely upon a similar program which appeared in IPSO FACTO the newsletter of the Psion Users Group run by Mike O'Regan at 130 Stapleford Lane, Toton, Beeston, Nottingham, NG9 6GB.(0602 735482). It was intended purely for my own use but due to requests I have put together this file and the corresponding Code for others to use (and criticise if my spaghetti code is erroneous/badly written ). 2) Licence FViewall is retained freeware - which means you are granted a free license to use the program but I retain the copyright to the Source Code. Please read the full Terms & Conditions of use that are set out in the following section. 3) Terms & Conditions a) FVIEWALL comprises the files FVIEWALL.OPL, FVIEWALL.OPO and this file README.TXT. FVIEWALL is copyright material of C.J.Consultants Ltd. and all ownership rights are retained. b) You may use and distribute FVIEWALL only in accordance with the terms and conditions stated here. c) You may modify FVIEWALL to suit your own conditions of use (e.g. altering the startup location of the file to be viewed) but please DO NOT distribute any other copy than this one as it will make it impossible for me to know which versions are around if I get any questions. d) You may distribute FVIEWALL only provided that : i) All the original files are included (in particular these terms and conditions). ii) NO charge is made other than to cover the fair and reasonable costs of distribution. f) While care has been taken in the creation of FVIEWALL, C.J.Consultants Ltd. does not warrant that the software is error free - use is at your own risk. g) Under no circumstances shall C.J.Consultants Ltd. be liable for consequential, incidental or indirect damages of any kind arising from the use of the FVIEWALL software. 4) Installation a) Setup Copy the file FVIEWALL to any the \OPO directory on any drive and the README.TXT to any directory you wish (I recommend using \WRD). b) Initialising files FVIEWALL does not create any files during use. c) Operation. To run FVIEWALL, make sure that the .OPO has been installed as described above and that it is showing in the OPL list on the System screen. Select FVIEWALL and press Enter. FVIEWALL has no online help except a simple prompt on screen during use. A summary of the active keys is shown below : Menu : Brings up the menu dialog which permits movement through the file or return to the startup menu. Any other key shows the next screen of the file 5) FVIEWALL - Usage On startup, the program displays a Dialog with four options:- File name Disk Type Unprintables File name + Disk allow the normal usage of the Tab key to navigate to the file to be viewed - the default is setup for Internal memory and the root directory. Type indicates the type of viewer to be used - either ASCII for plain text files or HEX+ASCII for binary type files. Unprintables deals with how characters outside of the Psion character set are to be handled - either shown as a single character '=CHR$(239) or not at all. Once you have made your selections press Enter and a second Dialog will appear requesting a starting position for reading the file (enabling you to restart reading at where you left off if you have noted it). It uses either Hex or Decimal notation (default is decimal) by use of the third line toggle. Pressing Enter will then start the display of the file as follows:- Initially the top line shows the chosen method of viewing and the file name. The next 16 lines are split into four columns - to the left are the Decimal and Hex column indicating the address of the first character in the line shown (there are 32 characters per row) this is followed by the file text column showing the file contents. The fourth column always acts as a reminder of the keys which control the display of text. If you press any key except Menu you will have the screen cleared and the next page (17 lines) of text will be written to the screen starting at the next line not read. This method will continue to the end of the file where the final screen will invite a key press to finish reading. You will now be back at the file choice dialog with the same file selected - you can now choose another file or press Escape to quit the program. If you press the Menu key instead of any other key during file viewing you will be placed at a third dialog which permits movement to an absolute address/relative to the current position or returning to the file choice menu. Goto an absolute address reveals another (groan!!) menu similar to the startup position menu allowing Hex/Decimal input of the position to move to. Jump Hex/Dec bytes relative reveals another dialog which has the added option of choosing the direction to move - forwards or backwards. Thats all (Phew!!).
